We take a lot of pride in our coffee, simply because it is just that good. After sampling over hundreds and hundreds of coffee beans, we scoured the entire country to source the best coffee bean for our customers.
Specialty coffee is at the centre of what great coffee is all about. All coffee is graded against the SCA’s grading system, and for a coffee to earn the title of speciality, it must achieve 80 or above out of 100 and be free from any defects. Most speciality coffees are grown at high altitudes, with lots of care and attention from the farmers, which results in very defined flavour notes from those beans. The more defined the flavour note, the higher the score that coffee gets. Specialty coffee not only tastes great due to it being more flavourful, aromatic, and well balanced compared to lower grade coffees, but also means our coffee has full transparency - you can tell exactly where our coffee beans are grown from. And the best part, our coffee is sustainable - as we support coffee roasters who support their coffee growing communities through initiatives and fair living wages. As specialty coffee is not only about great tasting coffee but also about supporting the communities who grow them.
There are dozens of coffee species, however, the two which dominate the coffee industry are arabica and robusta coffee. Arabica makes up about 70% of the world’s coffee production, and is generally regarded as producing better tasting coffee. However, robusta production has risen dramatically over the past 50 years in response to a higher demand for cheaper coffees and challenges facing arabica production. At Lea's Tea, we refuse to make compromises when it comes to our coffee beans, therefore, only 100% arabica coffee beans are used in our shop. This is to ensure that we serve only the highest quality coffee to our customers.
